I have a two year old, instead of using a medicine dropper, I use the syringe like dropper (sorry not sure what it is really called). Just try playing with him for a second and sneak the medicine to him.

I had this problem with my 4 year old boy too. What worked for me was to let him take the medicine himself. I use the spoon measurer or the cup instead of the syringe. It makes him feel like a big boy to do it on his own. He feels like he has more control of what he's doing and it's not so scary. I wouldn't like being held down either. It's worked for my little one. It's worth a try. Good luck!

I'm with Dixie B. - if you start rewarding him for not acting like that, he will learn quickly that he can throw a tantrum and you will reward him to get him to stop and behave correctly. Discipline him and enforce it until he agrees to take the medicine, then let him go play. Take him in the bathrm, close the door so he can't leave, and stay with him and make him sit down on the edge of the tub or on the toilet for a few minutes with nothing to entertain or distract him. Start with one min. per yr. of age, and don't flinch off of it. Then tell him if he will take his med. he can get up, otherwise he has to remain there. If he won't take it, continue to wait. Trust me, you can be stronger than an unruly child - he will eventually cave in and take it. You will win, and feel a lot better when you do. Good luck!

Tell him to show you how brave he can be, like Superman or a Cowboy. Then say if he takes his medicine like the doctor says, so he can get better, that you will take him to the store for his favorite meal or ice cream.

It is also important for you not to make a big deal out of it. Just casually slip it into a process, like right after a meal and right before a treat.

Who's the boss in this family? Do you have a partner or someone who can help you with this obstinate child? Will he take it mixed with food or liquids? If he doesn't see you put it in his food, he might take it easier. If it is a pill, crush it very finely into a cup of ice cream, pudding, applesauce, a milk shake, whatever the child likes. Or you can make him choose between taking his medication or not getting a special treat. It sounds like your son needs some serious discipline.

Hi. i am a pediatric nurse. i deal with this everyday!! here are numerous ideas..some may seem harsh,,,but they don't hurt them!
1. mix some of the medication with a tiny bit of juice, or with a spoon of applesauce.
2. tell them to plug there nose... no taste
3. offer them a reward to take it... gummy bear or something
4. put the meds in a syringe...lay him down. get on your knees...put them up by his tummy, so your bottom can hold his legs down... put your forearms or elbow on his arms and plug his nose and squirt it in..he has to swallow since his nose is plugged
5. the best is... get those mini m and m's and have him practice swallowing those whole with water... if he can, then get pills next time for his meds. you just have to cut htem in half if they are big. or smash them up and put them in applesauce.

hope this helps!

THE Mary Poppins method works best. Sing the song for him. I have a teaspoon of sugar and a small glass of water to follow the medicine. Talk to them and tell them take the medicine then sugar and drink the water. Mine really like this method. DON'T LIE TO HIM AND TELL HIM ITS CANDY!!!!

Tell him if he takes his medicine santa will bring him nice toys. Or bribe him with a treat that he likes.
What my mom did was pretend like she was taking the medicine and then my sister would think it was alright and she would drink it too.
Good luck.

put it in a piece of chocolate if possible.. if not, don't call it medicine.. Just tell him/her "here, this tastes good, pretend you drink some too.. " if all else fails, lay him/her on your knee, on back, put your hand on forehead, push back a bit, mouth will open, pour into mouth.. close mouth, until he/she swallows... medicine gone.. haahhaa.. they are NOT in control.. you are.. just give the medicine..too many people forget who is the parent.. when it comes to health.. should be no question, just do it..
