One of the things I noticed first is sometimes called the "Shrinking World".
The person with Alzheimer's will begin to let go of interests, places, and even friends as their ability to process information and keep up with events becomes reduced - so they might drop out of clubs, or just say hello and pass by someone they used to stop and converse with. They may quit shopping at many stores and only go to one mega-store for everything. If they had been a brand-loyal shopper, they will quit and just buy the first one of an item they see on the shelf.
Also, their ability to follow a complex narrative (while I was...then...because...however...even though...) goes away and they will seem to lack interest in what you are telling them.

First symptoms include short term memory loss, which gets worse as it gets going and eventually evades into long term memory loss. Alzheimers is believed to be caused from a lack of oxygen in the brain. There is not a cure; however there medications that can help symptoms take longer to progress.

Often, first indicator is having trouble finding the right word, or forgetting names. But these symptoms are also very common in people who are NOT developing Alzheimers.
