I'm having a party next weekend and aside from the usual things (alcoholic jelly, potato salad, bbq meats etc) I want to make melon balls - but not sure what the ratio of alcohol to use or even what alcohol to use. Help!

I should mention that I mean actually buying a watermelon and adding alcohol to it then turning it into melon balls.

1 oz. Vodka
1 oz. Midori
Orange Juice
Maraschino Cherry

Pour vodka into a collins glass filled with ice, fill almost with orange juice, float midori and stir gently. Garnish with the maraschino cherry.

We used to buy a whole watermelon and cut a small square out. Then we poured as much vodka in the hole, replaced the plug and then let it "cure". The vodka will be absorbed into the flesh of the melon. Be sure and keep a pan under it as the excess will sort of ooze out. The longer it sets the more of the vodka will be absorbed. (I guess you could use an injector now like you would use to inject the flavoring into a turkey).

According to the Mr. Boston Official Bartending Guide it is 1 oz. Melon liquer, 1 oz. vodka and 2 oz. Pineapple juice.
