I keep hearing missionaries and preachers (mostly from Christian and Catholic denominations) saying that if you believe in anything else other than a single monotheistic being, God, then you are wrong, and any other form of religion that you practice (like Buddhism, Islam, Zoastrianism, Paganism, etc.) is false, and it's the work of the Devil trying to deceive you. Is this true? If it is, then I really need to convert to Catholicism, or Christianity before I really damn my soul forever, right?

I know that Catholicism is a form of Christianity, okay? My key word there was "denominations", which I think, mean ALL the sub-branches of Christianity as well, the last time I checked.

That is not at all true.

"In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you." John 14:2

Whatever religion you choose is your own decision, and no true Christian believes that if you are not a Christian you will go to hell. The church likes to preach this so that they stay in power/business.

You just need to be a good person, and follow the golden rule: do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

More than anyone, such Christians better pray that there is no God because if there is, they a surely destined for some eternal *****-slapping by the almighty. Jesus will probably get in a few good shots as well.

This may be the funniest thing ever posted on this site:

As long as an individual completely/truly believes that Jesus Christ died on the cross for their sins, then it really doesn't matter what religion you follow. You must believe that God is Lord and Jesus is your Saviour.

How can anyone think or say this with a straight face? This is exactly the same ‘convert-or-die’ message we hear from Islamic terrorists.

If Jews are the 'chosen' people, then you are among the 'not chosen'. You might want to consider joining the winning team.

First, all religions are false, including Christianity.

Second, not all Christians believe the stuff you're saying, though some say you have to "accept Jesus as your personal savior" blah, blah, blah -- there are many Christians who do not believe that.

Have you ever read the Narnia series? In the final book The Last Battle is the view of a Christian who would not accept the stuff you paraphrase.

All religions have tolerant and intolerant people in them. They all have their literalists, and their non-so-literal-minded believers.

Ever see the PBS series of discussion between Bill Moyers and Joseph Campbell? Moyers is a Baptist who respects all religions.

Yes it is true if you are a Christian. No it isn't if you follow some other religion. You must choose for yourself what you want to become involved in as far as a religion is concerned. Christianity, does offer peace, forgiveness, joy, love and all the things we as humans appreciate. I know of no other religion that offers as much in the way of kindness as does Christianity. It is also not the way of Christianity to kill people simply because they do not follow Jesus. As many religions as there are, I would still be inclined to follow the Christian path. I am sure I would be terribly upset to find at death that I had missed out because I followed a religion that would not allow me in to heaven. Also religion is just that, religion. It is not religion that saves and grants a person salvation. Only you and you alone can accomplish that through Jesus. God sent his son so that we might be saved. No other religion can honestly make that claim.

All religions are a result of mans fear of death and his inability to explain his existence.
The very dictionary meaning of the word faith is "belief without proof."

This fear has been expoited since time immemorial, thus religions are the most succesful businesses in history, and continue to be.
Witness the catholic church who have, over the centuries, continued to convince millions of people to send them untold billions of dollars. And, for a price they tell you that you can buy your way into a level of heaven...omg, and people still buy that crap!
Turn on your news and see the bloody murder and mayhem being commited in Iraq, in the name of religion.
The christian religion has one of the bloodiest histories ever. Over the centuries the Popes have ordered the torture, murder, burning at the stake, and enslavement of non-believers by the tens of thousands.
When Galileo discovered that the earth was not the center of the universe, as they had been teaching, the church placed him under house arrest for life, and threatened him with real imprisonment if he ever revealed it. That was only one of the lies the church taught.
All religion is fear based. They've created this mythical place called hell with this evil creature called satan, or the devil, that they threaten you with if you don't do as they say. And, if you follow their rules, they've also created this mythical place called heaven with streets of gold, and angels with the wings of birds, where you'll go when you die. And, the nonsense goes on and on. Different religions have their own script, purely designed to brain wash, and keep you sending your money.
People are indoctrinated with religion as children and can rarely escape, it's more addicting than crack cocaine and they'll fight you to the death if you disagree with them or point out the fallacies of it.
The intelligent person isn't a sheep, he questions things that don't make sense, no matter who's nose gets out of joint when he does. The greatest people in history have questioned what didn't make sense, and had to fight and die for the truth when the ignorant masses wanted them destroyed.

Before you make your decision about religion, study astronomy, and cosmology. Turn your eyes upward to this incredible universe and all that it reveals, then see if you can believe in silly fairy stories anymore.
The only truth is mathematics. Unlike religion, it can all be proven. It's what's behind the entire universe, mankind included. Unlike others, I make no claim to know what created all this, but whatever it is must be up there laughing it's butt off at the ignorance of mankind.

specific and lots that convert to it. i will on no account end being a Christian. in spite of if it particularly is dying or no longer makes no difference, the growth fee or decline has no longer something to do with the purity of the religion, yet extra appropriate to the morality of the folk. i would not want a theocracy, in spite of if it became a Catholic one. i do no longer think of many others do the two, smells like a Democratic scare tactic. (no longer that the Republicans do no longer use scare procedures why can no longer they only debate the actual themes)? Peace!

From the Christian point of view this is true. If you are considering converting because of fear then reconsider what it is that you are being taught.

There are many Christians out there that would teach you that love is the only reason that you should become a Christian.

Alot of religions, other then Christianity (by the way Catholics are Christians) believe in one single God, so you do have more to choose from.

Who do you believe, the missionaries and preachers, or the rest of the world that's happily living with different beliefs?

I've actually lived both and what I found was that the threat of eternal damnation made my time a living hell.
