Well.. wed need to know your state in order to tell you the minimum requirements for it. But, ill explain some basic coverages available that way you can decide if you need them or not.

Collision- This is coverage for YOUR VEHICLE if it is involved in an accident. It has a deductible you must pay- the higher the deductible- the less you will pay

Comprehensive- This covers things that happen to your vehicle that are not related to an accident. For example- vandalisms, hail damage, thefts. It has a deductible as well.

Property Damage- This covers damage to other people property that you cause in an at fault accident. Be careful if you get the minimum amount offered (for example- if you got 10k in property damage- if you totalled someones new mercedes that cost 30k- youd be left paying the other 20k out of pocket.) I generally suggest around 25k in coverage minimum if at all possible.

Bodily Injury- This covers injuries to the party you hit in an at fault accident. Again- be careful getting the minimum avail- god forbid you injure someone seriously- they may come after you personally if you only have 10k or so available on your policy

Rental- this usually is VERY cheap. I personally pay only 9 dollars every six months. I always suggest getting it b/c it is a heck of alot cheaper then doing out of pocket rental when your vehicle is in the shop.

There are other coverages depending on your state but these are the basic ones.

I can't believe the people that actually advise trying to save money on liability coverage. $minimum liability coverage is crappy coverage, and will put you in the glue for the rest of your life if you are at fault in an accident injuring a doctor or an engineer, and lose the suit. I carry a million dollars minimum. Cut your coverages on the vehicle, raise your deductible, carry no coverage on the vehicle, but liability coverage protects YOU against lawsuits.

Why not shop around with the coverages you have and see if switching could help.
Go to www.progressive.com and they will compare for you and then you can call and get estimates from the companies they suggest.
Interesting side note, my hubby got a motorcycle at the same time as my car insurance was needing renewal. My car insurance would not touch us for that cause itwas a new bike license so we switched everything over to the new place that would give us bike insurance. When it was time to renew again suddenly they would give him bike insurance and a better car rate---w/o lowering our coverages

You can get the minimum liability, which is usually 25,000/50,000. Don't get collision insurance, especially if your car is over five years old.

One coverage I would definitely recommend is uninsured motorist coverage. There's far too many people out there driving without insurance.

Talk to an insurance agent about your individual needs.

Hard to answer without knowing your particulars. In any case you can't go below the minimum required by your state or area, whatever that is. And in many cases that minimum is really too little and it will cost you out of pocket in the case of an at fault accident. Sometimes saving a few cents will potentially cost dollars.

Depends on the State. All states have a different minimum coverage base. In CA it's $15,000 per person/ $30,000 per accident, for bodily injury. $5,000 per person , property damage liability. Plus we have to carry Uninsured Motorist insurance, PLUS a funky, anti-fraud charge ,good old ARNOLD put into effect of $2.75 per policy. So, see, it depends on the State. CA sucks. AND thats ONLY collision, no coverage for YOUR car!!!

the lowest you should go is the lowest they offer...which is third party only. it will be cheaper payments, but if you have an accident it will be cheaper to buy another motor..... you get what u pay for...drive carefully.
