Smile at him, laugh at at his jokes, even if they're not funny. Glance at him a lot, and ask him for stuff. Then start a convo about something he likes to do or ask him a question.
Shy guys will usually do anything to keep you talking, look at you until you see them and then dart their eyes away, then glance back at you. They usually try to get near you since they might be too shy to talk to you. If he acts really nervous and blushes when you talk to him it's pretty much a dead giveaway. Lastly, watch his body language. Feet pointed toward you or body turned/leaning toward you is always good.
