my sister and i were fighting about that...so is it true and can someone give me proof?

In humans and other hemoglobin-using creatures, oxygenated blood is bright red. This is due to oxygenated iron in the red blood cells. Deoxygenated blood is a darker shade of red, which can be seen during blood donation and when venous blood samples are taken. However, due to an optical effect caused by the way in which light penetrates through the skin, veins typically appear blue in color. This has led to a common misconception that venous blood is blue before it is exposed to air. Another reason for this misconception is that medical charts always show venous blood as blue in order to distinguish it from arterial blood which is depicted as red on the same chart.

Nope. Blood is red although it appears to be blue or greenish outside. Oxygenated blood (blood in the arteries that has passed through the lungs) are bright red while the blood in our veins are deoxygenated blood meaning the oxygen has been "used up" is dark red and almost purple-ish black. After the layers of skin it somehow appears to be blue or green. As for proof you can look up in biology books or just cut ur veins and arteries although the latter is much discouraged. =P

Your veins are blue, but the blood inside them is still red. The colour comes from the red blood cells. If you have ever had a blood test, the blood is drawn from a vein in your arm. Oxygenated blood is a brighter shade of red.

Blood is red. It carries a substance called haemoglobin, a combination of iron and oxygen in order for all body tissues to be supplied for oxygenation. The substance haemo of haemoglobin is red. Therefore blood is red, even if it's deoxygenated (without oxygen) because it always has haemo in it. Hope this helps.

Blood is believed to be blue until oxygen hits its. With that as runs through your viens it blue, but when you cut yourself adn it comes to the surface is become red.

While inside your body, blood that is on its way back to the heart and lungs after delivering its oxygenated load to your tissues is bluish-colored, NOT red. Blood turns red when it's oxygenated, and is blue at low oxygen levels. It's red when you see it outside your body because it gets oxygenated from the air.

Taylor is exactly right. Blood is blue in your body, only when it is exposed to oxygen does it turn red. Evidence, like he said, is your veins.

when blood does not have oxygen it is a slightly blue color thats why your veins are blue and oxygen rich blood flowing through the arteries are red

Blood is a deep dark reddish color with a hint of blue....when it is exposed to oxygen it turns to the red color we all know and are used to
