Dear Friends,

I'm planning to buy a digital camera. Please help me in selecting the right one. My priorities r as follows:

1. Price: Under 15,000 INR. (+_ 500 permitted)
2. Should be capable of quality video recording.
3. Should be handy. BUT PICTURE QUALITY COUNTS ABOVE ALL.
4. Should have a bit of manual adjustments.

Please help me. I've selected a few models like CANON POWERSHOT A540, NIKON COOLPIX L5. What about SONY and KODAK?

I'll remain grateful to all of you if you please leave your valuable comments.

Nikon is the unbetable and top brand in the digital camera. Cannon, sony are only next to it.

Nikon is a product from japan and they are pioneers in such quality equipments.

I am using Nikon Coolpix E56oo and it is excellent. The model which you have chosen is superior to that of mine. 5 X Optical zoom is really added advantage. moreover its also sleek and trendy. picture quality during day lights is unbeatable in nikon, sinc i have tried sony, canon, olympus and nikon. so take it from me.

If u wanna stil sleeker design, try Coolpix S7 with similar features. it is so sleek that you can carry it in your shift pocket.

1. Digital zoom is NOT actual zoom so ignore any value of digital-zoom shown on the cover of the camera. look for the optical zoom. the higher , the better

2. look for the size of the lens the bigger the better. OR in other words, look for a number written just next to the lens(very close), the lower the better.

3. go for a camera with three-chips for colour / picture manipulation rather then one-chip camera

4. look for the 'Frame per Second' rate on the cover of the camera (the fps rate). the higher the better.

5. the software bundled with the camera (given in a CD) must have mpeg-2 (or higher) encoding supported. it must also support mpeg-2 VCD-burning (note: Nero doesnt support mpeg-2)

I own a pair of Kodak prosumer fixed lens zooms... yet 10x Optical and that they are large. do no longer sell the Kodak short... it particularly is tremendously much as good a digicam by using fact the Sony, Canon or Nikon. i've got won many contests against the different cameras...

you have selected the best in the market, go to a store and hold each model. see which controls you like the best, some have smaller buttons than others and for people with larger fingers or older people small button are harder to manipulate. then I would look to make sure it has some sort of memory card expansion slot this will allow for "reloading" the camera for extended picture taking sessions ( I like SD cards the most)

but for your money comfort will be the most important feature.

If you have included the A540 in your final selections, you have found the winner.
