The confusion is due to a poor translation in the New International Version of the Bible and confusing the word Lucifer with Satan. In Isaiah 14:12 the NIV calls Satan the Morning Star, then turn to Revelation 22:16 you find that the Morning Star is Jesus in the same Bible!

The original Hebrew in Isaiah says, "O shining star, son of the morning, how you have fallen from the heavens." Whereas Jesus is the "Bright Morning Star" in Revelation. Compare the the NIV translation with the more accurate New King James Version.

Isaiah 14 (NIV)
12 How you have fallen from heaven,
O morning star, son of the dawn!
You have been cast down to the earth,
you who once laid low the nations!

Isaiah 14 (NKJV)
12 How you are fallen from heaven,
O Lucifer, son of the morning!
How you are cut down to the ground,
You who weakened the nations!

The Hebrew word translated as "Lucifer" in Isaiah 14:12 in the KJV is heylel (hay-lale', Strong's #1966), and literally means "shining one", "morning star", "light bearer", etc. Isaiah 14:12 is the only place in scripture where this Hebrew word appears. It may be a false assumption by the translators that this refers to Satan.

One of Lucifer's titles was "Star of the Morning"
I have never heard of Jesus being called by that title. He is known as the "Lord of Light", but never "Star of the Morning"...I believe I've heard him called "Son of the Morning", but that is not the same thing...
BTW, the "morning star" is actually Venus, and its light was thought by many to be the precursor of the sun...the one who went ahead of Light of Day (Jesus has also been called the DayStar)

Sorry, but they are not one and the same. Lucifer was the morning star, the first angel. Jesus is the Son of God, who threw him out of Heaven.
