Just like you said, doing nothing is the best option for you to do. getting legal would be a difficult task for him to accomplish, not unless the government will give amnesty to illegal imigrants in the coming years.

If that's my grandpa, I definitely and absolutely will let things stay as is. I love my grandpa and grandma a lot - they're both dead now, I wish they had the chance to come here in U.S.

I hope that helps.

People in my grandparents generation thought a lot more about following the law than today's generation. My grandparent's won't even go 40 in a 45 zone..afraid of speeding..so I assume older generations are pretty much the same. Maybe it's about time we all go back to some old fashioned values like they have...when my mom was a child if she even raised her voice, she got spanked till she could not sit down..now a days kids "control" the parents..

I'd be happy he did what he could to give my family a better life. It's sad that so many people are anti-immigration. I'm a decedent of some of the first illegal immigrants... that's right I go back to the Mayflower. I love my country and I'm glad to share it with all who come for a better life and cherish our American values. Lazy people who think that hard working immigrants are stealing their jobs are the ones who are dragging this country into the toilet.

Probably nothing. I don't think people realize how hard it can be to become a citizen, or the reasons why coming illegally makes more sense for some.

It's a very complicated problem, really.

Tell him what you've told us on this site (the second sentence of your explanation). Tell him he risks deportation back to his country if he's not legalized to be in a country. From what I understand, sometimes that can be sticky stuff.

Lol that's like a good question for all the "anti illegals"

That would be impossible 'cause he came to US long before there were immigration laws.

Thankfully, no one in my family is illegal. I would be ashamed if anyone was.

I would dig him up and ship him out.

BUT...my ancestor came over on mothers side...in 1740. My ancestor on dad's side came over in 1901 and came legally.

So, I guess they can continue to rest in peace....
