Just because water is salt water, doesn't mean its quality isn't important. Marine life is a benifit to the quality of the oceans. Many molusks (clams, oysters, mussels) act as tiny filters for the water. Also, Phytoplankton (tiny plants) are a huge absorber of carbon dioxide for the planet.
