Are the .dmg files in the Apple Mac world the same than the .iso files in the Microsoft Windows world?

Installation package files are not at all like .dmg file types. If you open an installation package, you will get an installer program with a sequence of windows, such as "Welcome to the whatever installer. Click agree..." etc. If you open a .dmg file, you will get a disk mounted on the Mac desktop. The disk can contain any normal files, even installer package files. In that sense, a .dmg (also called "disk mountable image file") is almost the same as a .iso file. The difference is that .dmg is for Unix type operating systems and .iso is for Windows. On your Mac system, you can convert a .dmg file to a .iso file using the Terminal program. See the link below for how-to.

No, dmg files are like the installation packages and stuffs while iso is virtual disc drive images. dmg will be same as msi.
