u don't need a special software. all u need is a cassette player, a computer, a recording software (like: musicmatch jukebox) and two-way line-in cord (it has earphone like jack on both ends)....now insert one end of cord into cassette player's speaker/headphone socket and other end into ur computer soundcard's line-in socket (usually the third one in soundcards, leaving aside: speaker, headphone sockets).....Now, start playing the song u wanna record and press the record button in recording s/w. U r done! the only problem is the whole song has to be played to record it. (caution: keep ur recording volume at medium for better quality)...Now BURN the files to a CD!

You need specific software, MS sound recorder sucks at doing this...Good news though, you can get very good software for nothing!.... you can get audacity software for free or a free trial of applian software at http://www.cassette2cd.co.uk/downloads.php
Even better, you can get a full guide download in PDF format from the same page, or look at the online guide at: http://www.cassette2cd.co.uk/diy
hope this helps
