fender makes squier as a lesser-priced line of instruments; so
they have 'something for everybody's budget'.

You have now discovered that the Fender Stratocaster is the most copied guitar on the face of the planet.

Squier is built for entry level players- just learning how to play. It is fine for the first year or so of lessons.

(Most) Fenders are for intermediate to advanced players. The models made in Mexico are just a little better than Squiers, while the Japanese and U.S. models are the best.

Squier is a cheap "first guitar" guitar thats usually sold in starter packs, while a Fender Strat is an actual Fender model. They do look similar, but id go with a strat anyday.

the main differene is the category that you ask the question in.

but since you're here............

Squire is Fender's entry level line of guitars. they sound great and have Fender quality but are a little cheaper for them to make and thus sell.

it's kind of like cars...the Honda Accord and the Acura TL are essentially the same car but one is a little nicer and cost a litte more.
