Personally, I've never needed weight gain pills. The best way to naturally gain weight is to eat six medium sized well balanced meals a day. Make sure your last meal is before you go to bed at night. I guarantee that this will make you gain weight.
Here is a sample menu.
Meal one: one apple, one cup oatmeal porridge, three scrambled eggs.
Meal two: one banana, one protein bar.
Meal three: A large salad with lowfat dressing topped with the cooked meat of half a chicken. a baked potato
Meal four: a protien shake made with two cups 2%milk, two scoops protien and a bit of low fat hot chocolate powder for flavoring.
Meal five; six ounces roast beef, one cup cooked broccoli, one sweet potato
Meal six : a steak sandwich made with 4 to 6 ounces steak, two slices of whole grain bread, and some mayo or bbq sauce.
I guarantee if you eat like this, you will gain weight. Preferably, you should have the protien shake right after you work out.Basically concentrate on lean protiens such as chicken, lean beef and tuna. Also low glycemic carbohydrates are good, such as whole grain breads. brown rice, sweet potatoes and whole grain pastas. I know this is a lot if fooid but if you are serious about gaining, you honestly need to look at eating the same way you would a job. You have to do it. GOOD LUCK

The diet suggested above is fine. Just eat 5 or 6 smallish meals per day, get plenty of protein and enough carbs and fat, and make sure you eat enough calories to gain weight.

Most weight gain pills won't work - there's a *lot* of snake oil. Steroids can work, but the risks involved means I'd advise avoiding them - especially if you're just starting lifting. Creatine can be of some help, but isn't cheap and carries a risk of kidney damage.

Anyway, good luck with the lifting :)
