A good source and my favorite is craigslist.org. Also you could try red cross, or your local food bank.

Go to www.volunteermatch.org or www.faithinaction.org. You can also drop by the VA hospital or nursing homes, but call first to make sure. And remember, the soup kitchens also feed people every day: if they're busy on Xmas, try volunteering on New Year's Eve or Day, since you have the time off and since the homeless are hungry on those days, too.
