Desiderata

Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons,
they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs;
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself.
Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love;
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment
it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.

Just about covers everything,methinks.
Merry Christmas!

No one knows of another man's secret sorrows. Oft times we think a person hard when they are really only sad-Longfellow. My other fav is what my dad told me when I discovered he had been a hero in WWII. He told me a hero was no more than someone in the right place, at the right time & CHOSE to do the right thing. The real heros were those who came home wounded in flesh or spirit or never came home at all.

“Part of being a winner is knowing when enough is enough. Sometimes you have to give up the fight and walk away, and move on to something that's more productive.”

“Anyone can give up, it's the easiest thing in the world to do. But to hold it together when everyone else would understand if you fell apart, that's true strength.”

“I can't change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination.”

“Virtue does not come from wealth, but. . . wealth, and every other good thing which men have. . . comes from virtue.”

“A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out.”

“Promise me you'll never forget me because if I thought you would I'd never leave.”

“You may fool all the people some of the time, you can even fool some of the people all of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all the time.”

“I don't need a friend who changes when I change and who nods when I nod; my shadow does that much better.”

“Tell me and I'll forget; show me and I may remember; involve me and I'll understand.”

"Anyone can give up, it's the easiest thing in the world to do. But to hold it together when everyone else would understand if you fell apart, that's true strength.”

“If we are strong, our strength will speak for itself. If we are weak, words will be of no help.”

When I was going through a particularly difficult patch, and each day brought some new anxiety, a poster of Garfield kept me cheerful - he was weighed down with all kinds of beach gear and saying 'Are we having fun yet?'

When I was younger, my older sister brought me a bookmark.

It was really pretty and gold and on it it said:

All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream.
~Edgar Allan Poe

Now its one of my favorite quotes.
