I've been told being gay is not a sin, that aving an abortion is not a sin, that fornicating is not a sin and the list goes on, but how can people who aren't saved and don't live by the Bible and some don't believe in God tell us what sin is? If they don't believe then how can you tell us what sin is? I don't understand can you explain it to me?

The concept of sin is outdated? hmmm... really? The Bible tells me about people who say that... Isa 5:20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

I think they are confused and should read about what they are saying. They may not think being gay or having premarital sex or abortions is ethically wrong, and that's fine, but they can't say your religion says those things just because they believe it.

If you want to call any of those sins, go right ahead. Just don't force it into legislation. Or tell me that I'm going to hell because I live differently from you.
I am Jewish. Our concept of sin is very different from the Christian one. The word that is translated as 'sin' is an archery term which means 'missing the mark.' We recognise that it's part of being human to make mistakes, to miss the ideal that we're aiming for. It's not about eternal damnation, it's about living through the process of becoming a more considerate, careful, compassionate perseon.
Some of those 'sins' you listed have been ripped out of the Jewish tradition and tacked onto Christianity. What very few Christians understand is that Judaism carries its entire tradition around with it, including the debates and disagreements. Much of Judaism has moved away from the belief that these things are 'sins'. We understand that it is part of our past, but a part that no longer makes sense to us. Any Christianity that clings to these out-dated notions is archaic and dead.
I haven't been 'saved', but I have studied religions at length and practiced a few. My knowledge of 'sin' is far broader than yours. Deny the validity of my knowledge if you want. But listen and you might learn something.

There is NO SUCH THING AS SIN!
The so called sin was the knowledge of good and evil!
An act that in and of itself doesn't mean the person is going to choose evil!
Next the law didn't come about until long after the fact.
If the law came not from a non existant God but from the secioty of that time. Then all we have is law breakers NOT SINNERS!
The law of our secioty is the only law that matters!
Religious laws don't mean anything!
There is NO GOD to enforce these laws!

i beg to differ on your remarked, "who aren't saved", because i believe that everyone is already saved. The grace of salvation is given to all and not just for Christians.
Sinning constitutes, a wrong done. To sin means, that you have offended God and you have offended someone. Morality is simple, just know the difference between good and evil. Being gay, abortion and fornication, it depends on how you view them. Because i think there's some underlying problems to those situations. Can't a Christian forgive and accept them? God sure can forgive, why not us?

hmm... good question- I've never personally told somebody that being gay, having an abortion, having sex, or making any other personal choice in any other way is okay or that there is something wrong with it (except on Yahoo Answers)... My standpoint is this- if your religion has a problem with these things- don't participate. BUT don't step on someone else's feet for it.
People don't follow that. They want to gloat, and "spread their good word" which really isn't all that good to everyone you ask. In fact, only a percentage feel the same way.
Bottom line- its okay to deny yourself the things that make you human if you want to... but telling someone else that they're wrong for doing so is immoral (and incredibly irritating!). The easiest way to go: leave them alone- they will leave you alone.

The Bible tells us that the reason God gave Moses the Law he recorded in the old Testament was to teach His chosen people what sin is. Until they had the Law, they didn't know. This is almost the way it is now to people who never read the Bible and yet spout-off what they think is right and wrong (being wrong, of course).

Do you know they are not "saved"? and who says christians are the only ones who can define what a sin is? last I checked, they don't have a monopoly on what sin is. other religions have sin too. and anyone, believer in God or not, is capable and entitled to have an opinion on what they think sin is or is not. stop being so closed minded.

Sin is a concept that exists only in the minds of Christians, therefore, to a non-Christian, nothing is a sin, as it is a purely Christian concept. Should you have to follow Islamic rules even when you are not Muslim?

Its called propaganda, just like all Muslims are terrorists, or at least he ones who keep a beard or wear a scarf, all religions are backward, Darwinism is a fact, creationism is a myth, there are WMDs in every Arab nation, Israel is the most peaceful "Democracy" in the world, the list goes on...
The point is if you hear it enough times you are affected by it and if not you, definitely your children are.
