Did you know the dog too? Maybe you can tell him a funny story about his dog. Try to make him tell you about all the good times he had with his dog. Sometimes rembering the good stuff helps you carry one when you loose a loved family memeber. Good luck

Well, my best friend lives abroad but my puppy died two weeks ago and I was absolutely shattered. I really wish I had someone who I could have talked to. Just be someone who she can talk to, tell her that you are sorry for her loss, and then listen to what she has to say. Maybe make her a card or something to say how sorry you are? There is really not that much you could do otherwise but wait. At the start I just cried for three days straight, as I missed him so much. Don't ask her about what happened until you feel that she is ready for these things, as being asked stuff made be burst into tears. Be patient. I wish her well. xx

Make him laugh. Try and take his mind off of it. He can't be stuck in the past. He'll have to move on. Losing a dog is a hard thing. It's happened to me 6 times. But now i have 7 healthy dogs and puppies and it's not that i've forgotten them, it's just that i'm not going to let it get me down any longer. I miss them dearly but I know the future brings better things. You still need to tell him your soryr for him. Whether you sound like a girly man or whatever. Sometimes sorry is all it takes to make someone else feel better. Best of luck.

But him a card and say that you heard about the dog and it really sucks. Then ask if he is going to get a new dog - then move the conversation onwards. If he wants to talk about it he will, if not you basically said sorry, which a friend is suppose to do.

There are sympathy cards for dogs, on a lot of the Pet Sites. or go to a pet store and get one. Send it to him - that would be the best thing you could do for him at this special moment for him

You should allow him and you to mourn the dogses that have passed in to the next level. So be soft, I'm sure he wont mind... Maybe he will be happy that some one allows him to be sad and to cry a little.
