Nobody was an illegal immigrant back when the mayflower came. Perhaps to the 'native Americans' but there was no government...no real rules amongst the people that were already here. So quite technically there were no illegal immigrants back when America was first getting started. Please realize that illegal immigration is because of government and the ways of it. Not a tradition!
And telling you to speak the language we do. That's not rude, that's what should be. If your going to live and work in America...don't you think you should be speaking English? Its not exactly the best thing when someone is walking down the street and all of a sudden are screaming at another in a different language. It really puts more of a border up between those who are illegal and legal...which wouldn't you want the border to be gone instead of more definable?

I agree AND disagree with you...
Im Native also, but I don't support the whole "Immigration thing." I hate the way the crime rate has increased, the murders, the crimes...because of the illegals. The protests here (In Arizona) about the border fence being built..i say BUILD THE FENCE!!!I hate the way that good jobs go "bi-lingual" applicants when I could do a better job even if im not bilingual. I'm not racist or anything, I just hate the way that we have to bend over backwards language wise...as in spanish inputs for EVERYTHING...shampoo, food...you name it. I agree that there should be one official language which is english. And YES...i DO know my native tongue and people should get used to the fact that I will be speaking my language and if it offends people...get over it...learn my language and you'll see what I'm talking about. Just because I speak my native tongue it doesnt mean I'm talking about YOU...
Although I'm native american myself, I do disagree with the person (forgot her name who put this question)...it is true that "we were here first" but you really need a reality check...WHERE would you be without electricity, cars..and INTERNET...you wouldn't be posting your stuff on here if we did resort beack to the old ways. I am fortunate that my tribe still practices traditional values and refuses to give that up. Be glad that your reservation doesn't TAX groceries! You really need to get off your high horse...ethnic people are here to stay, caucasion, asian, african...no matter what you say...as long as they were born in this blessed country they're AMERICANS....yes, their ancestors came in the Mayflower..SO WHAT....its not their fault...and this isn't YOUR country...your NAME isn't written on the damn globe is it? no it isn't.
I will agree with you on one thing though...that us AMERICANS are too lazy to pick tomatoes and such...
grow up. seriously. pick another topic to b*tch about....like how to apply masacra.

You seem to be missing the point, considering that you're speaking English rather fluently.
This country was FOUNDED on immigration, and my grandparents came here from Greece... LEGALLY.
That means that when they got here, they paid taxes, learned the language, and built their business from the GROUND UP. They did NOT come to this country expecting to be granted amnesty, because they didn't put up that with crap back then.
And, while we're at it, enough of this "they work the jobs that Americans won't do"... They work those jobs because it STILL pays them more than they would get paid in Mexico, and unless they're FLUENT in English, it's almost impossible to get a better job unless it's a company run by people who speak predominantely Spanish.
Basically, they work those jobs because unless they're legal, English speaking citizens that can work with the general public, it's all that's available to them.
People who come to this country in an attempt to better their lives arrive here with the intent to embrace the American way, NOT to exploit it.
And, by the way, thanks to illegal immigrants, our taxes go towards so many anchor babies, it's not even funny.

Thanks! You made me think. And I was all ready to be ashamed and embarrassed because there are many things that are embarrassing on a national level. But on this subject....
At first I thought how wrong I have been to have thought 'every American needs to learn English'. Then I went down to the real reason why I think that. It would be different if Spanish or Italian or Cambodian or Vietnamese or even native American was the national language. But they are not - English is.
If not speaking any of those languages would stop me from being effective in my daily activities and any of those other languages was declared our national language, then I hope that I would learn it. But that is not the case.
But on the other hand, you would think that that would give me an unfair advantage over those other nationalities because I speak English and a lot of them do not. But lo and behold, in a lot of cases, that statement is not true. There are pay differentials for speaking a foreign language, especially spanish.
Another of the many, many inconsistencies of our society. This one I don't think anyone can fix.
By the way, yes, I agree that what was done to take this country from the native Americans was/is criminal - reparation is in order in my opinion....but then we'd have to talk about reparation for the african americans (maybe that was what afirmative action was for - something to think about). Oops, I forgot - that's a non-subject which we just don't talk about.

I am also a "Native American." I was BORN HERE. Does that not make me "native?" I also follow the laws of this Country and know how to read, write and speak the language of this Country very well (as well as a few others).
And NO ONE pays my way but ME.
Keep up this attitude, keep feeling sorry for yourself and angry at those who have it better than you because they worked for it, and you will just continue your pathetic legacy into the next generation of people who feel sorry for themselves for not making the effort to better themselves.
You can start by learning how to read, write, spell and use correct punctuation and grammar.

Let's not get started on the which race was here fist issue, it's moot, and ancient history, of which can not be changed. The fact that we are all here, now, and have to make this system work is the real issue. There is no new world to migrate to this time, and unless all of us boneheads are really ready for another civil war, we better work for a realistic way to resolve this problem, instead of resorting to name calling, racial slurring and, and party politics.
Oh and no native Americans where no better than other races, and by no means noble, they willingly and knowingly practiced war on each other, even slavery as well.
The only thing that embarrass me about Americans, is the fact that we still have not been able to accept each other let alone figure out just what it is we need to do to solve our own problems, with out casting blame on others.

If Criminal Trespassers are doing all the "Hard work" Then why do I not see any of them doing the work I do? They are not qualified or trained to do the dangerous work I do. They do not have the required language skills necessary to pass the qualifications testing to become certified to do the type of work I do. My training and qualifications keep me from being at the bottom of the wage scale, yet it required a lot of continued training and hard work to get to this point, I am far from lazy, take your generalizations and shove them.
I will never be embarrasssed for being an American.

Maybe we should bring back those very people so they can speak for themselves. No one owned this land. No one had any laws in place. Flipping hamburger patties is not hard work. Where where the illegals when DNA was being invented ? Where we're the illegal aliens when the internet was invented? So when you say all Americans are lazy then you must be in a selective club. This country was not builded by Mexico. If they work so hard I suggest they start working hard to change their own countries. You might go back and offer insight and support.

Are you an American, or a Native American, and there is a difference, becasue if you are a Native American, then you should really be pissed at the United Sates for taking your land and putting you on reservations, but if your an American, like I said before, take them all in and provide for them, and as for the legal ones, I will do whatever I can to assist them, but they have to have earned it.

I am embarrassed..to say I live in the land of the free and then I look around the Hel--Hole it's become since illegals have come in.. I and other hardworking AMericans have worked for years to save money for a decent life in retirement and now dam- immigrants are taking all the money we worked hard for for years.. I am ashamed we have a president who is too dam- stupid to see the problems in front of him or just too dam-n lazy to care...I wonder if the people in Europe and France are laughing at us for what we have let happen to the best country in the world...
