It seem like every time I embark on a spiritual quest there are people who pop up and start saying things that seem to be designed to impede my journey. What is this? Are these demons or something like them?

I just think of them as obstacles in my way, everything that impedes me gets taken care of in one way or another. The more dissent I receive, the more I am inclined to try to reach my original goal.

The path to discovery does not come from any old books. The path to self-discovery can be attained through close observance of all things in nature, and through deep meditation. There is no 'faith' required for self and spiritual enlightenment.

You're just noticing them or what they say, or perhaps interpreting it differently, because of where you've placed your attention.
This is just how our minds work. We discard thousands of sensations, observations and thoughts every day because we don't have the capacity to deal with them. We focus our attention on what seems most important (or distracting) to us at any time. Your spiritual quest is your filter.

Yes the Prince of the power of the air is in control of this world.It says that in the bible.its influence on people is vast.it is in most everything. but if you have the spirit of God in you. and have love. and faith then what they say will roll off you like water off a ducks back.keep love in your heart. they may find there way one day.and yes theres demons that influence people. I always figured that you are trying to follow your dream or someone elses. I think that many egos of the people around you are constantly suggesting that your dreams arenn't as important as theirs and it conflicts.
Also, because of the diversity and education of those around you, they may not understand what it means to explore the unknowns to ones knowledge.
It takes a big leap of responsibility to follow your curiosities and accept the consequences of the adventure.

Just about every spiritual tradition will tell you that those obstacles, if you keep on your path, will actually strengthen you. In other words, even those who oppose God's path actually do God's bidding.

No. But you must find what does make sense to you. No matter what gets in your way. I personally find Christianity to make more sense that anything else. But research other religions too.

because they don't want people to be who they really are. people don't realize that you can be who you are and still have faith.
