I've almost learned hiragana and katakana. Now I need a good book to learn Japanese from. Which do you think is the best for a self-educated person? I'd prefer it to be written in kana.

The 3 volume set "Japanese for busy people" is excellent.
It takes you from beginner to the intermediate stage.
It even has tapes for listening practice.
It's written mostly in kana, with only a few
kanji introduced.

There are hundreds of books to learn Japanese. The best way is to go to the biggest bookshop which sells foreign language self-study book complete with CD or cassette, or even DVD, and get their recommendation.
Personally I would suggest this fun book to learn Japanese:
Jimi's Book of Japanese: A Motivating Method to Learn Japanese (Hiragana) (Paperback)
by Peter X. Takahashi, Yumie Toka (Illustrator)

I appreciated Rosetta Stone however it's pricey. The method I found out it was once to make approximately six hundred flashcards of traditional phrases and to be trained the fundamentals of grammar from a inexpensive textbook. I acquired a few enjoy for the accessory that I desired by way of looking ancient Zatoichi films however to relatively be trained it took close to four years in japan. Flashcards are extra foremost than language methods to begin with. Spend a pair months naming the whole lot in sight earlier than beginning at the grammar. That sample carefully resembles the best way a little one alternatives up language and your mind is installed to be trained that method.
