1. Go to Start>Run.
2. Type in msconfig and hit enter.
3. Go to the Startup tab and look at what processes are trying to load at startup. Uncheck the ones you think you don't need.
4. It will then ask you to restart the computer.

I try to only allow 5-8 processes to run at start up. Definitely no more than 8-10. Increasing your RAM would also help. Good luck.

If that doesn't work. Download Spybot or Lavasoft's Ad-Aware and run a scan on your system to make sure you don't have any spyware.

Do what Garrett said. There is this free do it all program that is safe, called Advanced Windows Care, it helped me out allot. What you're doing wrong, I have no idea. Computers get old, programs get bloated, they disagree with each other. Maybe you need some more RAM, a bigger hard drive, or to clean out the clutter. Oh by the way CCleaner is another freebie that is good, and safe to flush out your computer. Best of luck.

Common occurance with windows, particularly Millenium, especially when using IE for browsing. I'd second Garret's recommendations and add using another browser.
Depending on what viruses and/or adware has ended up being on there a reinstall of windows may be in order. Or you could just switch to using Linux. ;-)
Links to AVG, other browsers and some other security related info can be found at the link below.

This could be many problems not just one. First get AVG FREE scan for virus and remove them, get Adaware and scan and remove all spyware, and get windowscare at iobit.com and the other stuff and downloads.com. Next you wanna clean your computer, under start, programs, accessories, system tools, and click on disk cleaner and after do the same but this time click on disk defrag this will gaurentee that your computer would not crash or die off.

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
