Most likely because you would have trouble with estimating the trajectory necessary to shoot a rifle.

You might want to see if their is another test they can administer. I couldn't pass the Navy depth perception test when I went for an explosive fork lift license but was able to pass the Air Force one.

you need to know how far away the mark is. this in turn would allow you to correctly dial your elevation in on the rear sight of your weapon in order to hit the mark. this would save the protesters breath, because the body count of friendly forces would be lower. then they would have only negative remarks (in their own minds).
