Which is better? Chevy or Ford? Porsche or BMW? Mercedes or Lexus? Nikon or Canon? These are all unanswerable questions as they are all "the best" in their class, depending who you ask.

If you have no personal preference, perhaps you would do best by going with the recommendation of your local camera shop pro or a friend who has something that he/she likes. If you have someone who is willing to help you learn how to use a particular camera, add ten points to that brand in your decision making process.

If you are shopping for a point and shoot, I find I favor Canon. If you are shopping for a DSLR, I find I favor Nikon. This is more a matter of personal preference than anything else, though, so please post a new question. Tell us how much you want to spend, what you plan to use the camera for most of the time, and what your prior experience is with photography. With this information, we will be much more helpful to you.

Fuji Finepix F30 and F31
These two can give you pictures that get close to the best SLRs for quality. In part, that's down to their ability to deal with low light - they were the first compact cameras to boast 3200 ASA maximum sensitivity and they can deliver useable pictures at that setting without excessive noise. It's also down to the way Fuji have eschewed the megapixel race in favour of better sensor quality and image processing; the F30 and F31 only have 6 megapixels but their image quality is superb. Shutter lag on both models isn't bad, though less would be nice along with a wider lens range.
The main difference between the F30 and F31 is the latter's face recognition technology which adjusts the camera's settings to suit what it perceives as faces in the frame. It works but wouldn't necessarily be a deal breaker between the two for me.

Panasonic, when I was at a store looking for a digital camera I was approached by a Panasonic employee that ensured me Panasonic is the best brand out there! Now I believe here this camera works awesome

Any type that sells digital cameras, see you later as they have a minimum of five megapixels and is no longer too thick. in case you like particular manufacturers, i discover that Canon and Nikon make decent digital cameras.

HP has really great cameras and they realy lead the digital imaging industry. I have HP cameras, printers and scanners, and they are all amazing. I've had some trouble with Kodak digital cameras, so watch out for those.

I have a Samsung, and I love it, easy to use too, and it has video, on sale at wal-mart, $199.
