Are you mailing a package or letter from WA to CA? Check out the link the the US Postal Service below. They provide details on costs and speed. Of course, there is a possibility of a lost or late package in certain circumstances, but I have always had service that matched the descriptions or faster. (And I used to do a lot of business on eBay.)
You could also look on the websites for UPS and FedEx.

The post office is the best thing we have, and their employees are amicable and courteous, except for the few that don;t behave. Some [people call it the snail mail, much of the actual mail goes to Texas to be tested on reading and merging machines all for the speed you are complaining about. Why you think we have so many competition.
