I've given up smoking 3 weeks ago, it's hard to keep occupied, I find myself eating a fair amount more than usual.. Everytime my parents/friends notice; I use the excuse that it's Christmas, but then I really think - is it OKAY to eat more at Christmas, just because it is the festive time of the year we should treat ourselves?

Maybe this was a good time to give up smoking, as I have a good excuse for eating and drinking lots of mulled wine and beer!!!

What do you think?

I would not feel guilty about eating, or anything else that is not harming someone or something.
I would enjoy for the most part, and what I am doing is eating one less regular meal a day to counter the excess Christmas calories.
For me, it is the candy and Christmas cake, right now. I might say Christmas cake with tea makes a rather nice breakfast!
Just be as careful as you can, Mate. It will all work out. Also congratulations on stopping smoking, those things are more deadly than food ever will be!

No, I don't think you should feel guilty for using Christmas as an excuse, but you said it, it's an excuse. Maybe it would be better to accept that you've made a major achievement (well done for giving up smoking!) and that you miss it, and that eating and drinking helps you to deal with that loss. Be kind to yourself and don't punish yourself, but also be aware that eating and drinking could be a replacement for the gap that smoking left behind. Think about why you needed to smoke (leaving aside that addictive aspect) and why you now need to eat/drink. Also check out Amazon for some good reading matter on the subject. Now I'm lecturing you!!! Enjoy Christmas and eat/drink because it's what your body wants, don't feel guilty it won't taste as good! Happy Christmas!

One should never feel guilt about food. Food has nothing to do with emotions and it is not "good" or "bad". You should go easy on your food because your body is an organic machine which requires a set amount of energy.
It's ok to enjoy chocolates and cakes, booze etc. for a holiday. Why not? It's a holiday.
You have given up smoking and now food is taking the place. We do things like smoke and over eat because we don't want to face things in our lives.
You need to go and be on your own AFTER the holidays and ask yourself why you smoke and why you eat a lot. The answer will come to you.

It's Christmas! It is the best excuse we get all year for eating more and indulging in the calories!! So use it! Just forget eating all the right things because Christmas is Christmas! Have fun, eat all the wrong things and celebrate while you can!! Have a good Christmas!

no - its a tradtion to eat alot at christmas and then feel guilty in the new year when your just that little bit over weight from all the christmas food lol.

I keep in mind that ingesting burnt meat will ultimately reason maximum cancers. yet i love to burn warm dogs and bologna. I continuously devour the beef it extremely is somewhat chard. it truly isn't any longer as in case you devour that stuff time-honored.
