Holding a wild bird captive without a permit is illegal. Stick to throwing it food.

Get some green peas and make a line of them up to a box which you have propped up with a stick (which has a string on it) creep behind the barn holding the string
When the duck comes to take a pea - pull the string.

I had to catch a few ducks that wandered onto the resort property. One thing I can tell you is they have no idea of your intentions, other than to eat them for dinner and will stress them out. Why not just keep it the way it is, maybe feed it, but if you like the duck, don't try to trap it.

My best advice would be to keep going with the relationship as it is and over time the duck may trust you enough to let you pat it.... let the duck come to you do not try to force the relationship as it is a wild creature. My father-in-law did this with a chipmunk and within two months time of feeding the chipmunk seeds and treats the chipmunk came over and started eating out of his hand and within a short time of that the chipmunk would sit in his hands and eat his treat. Good luck

This is not a good idea. They wont understand your good intentions, and even duck bites will hurt.
Even if you somehow managed to gain the ducks trust, its STILL not a good thing, because that makes him more trusting of humans in the future. Humans who might want to eat/kill/hurt the poor duck. Just watch him from a distance.

hmm well if u do catch it then u will probably hold it for a few seconds because it will try to get away..especially if its a wild duck, I have four pet ducks and they still sometimes get scared when u try to catch it and hold it..
