Someone else posed this question several weeks ago on Yahoo answers and we were advised to go to the AVG website and download the free version of AVG 7.5 , I did that, and have the new version, so don't panic, it is just a notification to inform you that the current version expires in January

AVG is a great product, but I moved over to Avast. It has a little more overhead, but it's scan-on-boot function picks up a lot that the "big" guys miss.

Both are good and won't bog your system down. If they start charging a modest amount, they'd still be worth it compared to "the big guys"

AVG 7.5 will still be a free product,a lot of poeple got the impression that you were going to have to pay for it.Just go to their website and download version 7.5.I installed it over the top of the previous version with no problems.
While your there, check out their free anti-spyware program as well.
Hope thats of use to you.

I use Comodo after getting some good recommendations for it on here. Seems fairly stable and reliable. Detected my copy of Nero was loaded with viruses. Avg didn't.

buy it you cheapskate.

mine only cost £30 for a two year licence, it finds every virus that comes out, virus database is updated daily sometimes 2 or 3 times a day, the program itself gets updated too. it is arguably the best program of it's kind, Macafee and Norton are poor programs and way more expensive and offer less protection.

Not true. There's a new free AVG version. Get it for free from their website.

you upgrade to the new version free. They are just changing from 7.1 to 7.5. There is still a free version of 7.5 found here.
