I have tried multiple time to convince my parents that I should be allowed to have a cell phone. I'm 16 and I have my license, so it would be very useful to have one if I was stuck somewhere. They always counter that with, "well, you shouldn't be anywhere where you need to call for help." I also have many after school activities, and I want to be able to contact them if something changes. They are always on my case about not letting them know whats going on, but I can't if it changes during the activity. I'm also a straight A student, so it's not like I'm not a responsible person. Everybody else in my family has one, except me. I am sick and tired of having to borrow phones from people, I feel like I'm a parasite. I have said I would pay for part of it, so thats not the problem. Any suggestions are welcome.

tell them about the teenage girl who was kidnapped, but able to turn her phone on,,,, and let 911 hear what was going on, and she was rescued??? or that a car can break down, you could be in an accident and trapped etc etc,,,, at your age i think a phone would be a good idea, if its a money issue, ask if you can do chores to help pay for it,,,

Your first option is to buy one on your own, but that will probably upset your parents. What I did was borrow my friends' phones, but then while I was talking to my parents, I had them yell in the background, saying things like "get off the phone, you're wasting my minutes!" and "god, why do you always borrow my phone? get your own!" etc. My parents figured out pretty quick that it was just a ruse, but they got me a prepaid for Christmas. We stuck with that for a little while. About six-ish months later, my mom put me on the family plan. Ask your parents for a prepaid, its not too expensive. Then make sure you're responsible with it, and use it (mostly) for calling your parents, and always call them when something changes, toshow the how useful it is. Once they get used to the idea, you can approach them about getting a regular cell phone. Good luck!

ask for a pay as you go phone. they may just be concerned about the monthly bill or that 2 year contract. tell them if they get you a go phone then yes it will be a little more expencive than a reg phone but it could be a good trial basis phone and if it goes well then they could sign a contract and if it goes bad they can sell it on ebay. hope it helps

tell them it particularly is for secure practices reasons - what if there substitute into an emergency and you mandatory to call 911? whether you do no longer pass out w/ friends very often, it remains a solid thought to have a telephone. tell your mothers and fathers that a cellular would be extremely functional in case you have been on the mall and mandatory them to p.c.. you up or something like that. you would be waiting to constantly call them or they'd call you too. ultimately, enable them to understand that all and sundry your friends have cells and it particularly is a typical subject to your age.

Start making yourself inconveniently unavailable for your parents. Moments when your parents need to get in touch with you but cant. Having a mobile phone is about communication. It's for their convenience as well. I don't understand a parent that would say "you shouldn't be anywhere where you need to call for help". If we could predict problems they would never occur.

i kinda agree with boodie, wait and see if they get you one for Christmas, and if they do i hope that you are going to be responsible when using it.but if they don't then i would save the money and buy one of those trac phones where you have to buy min. for it. this way it is something you did on your own.cell phones and contract are not cheap. my daughter and her boyfriend just got theirs and the first bill was $200.00 that's expensive. good luck! MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!

Buy a TracPhone or any other prepaid phone on your own. You won't have to worry about contracts or huge monthly bills.

#1 get a job after school , or on the week-end. Then buy your own track phone.

That way you will be in control. Not your parents.
