I just noticed that my shih tzu is keeping is right eye slightly closed. It's watering and it looks odd. It looks a little swollen but i don't think he was poked in the eye by anything. I'm freaking out a little because it doesn't seem to be bothering him at all. Can someone tell me a little about this. Should i take him to the vet, which would be my luck because it's closed today.

He may have gotten something in his eye, or is having an allergic reaction to something. Get a wet washcloth and clean it up (be gentle) If it's not better by the time the vet opens, take him in.

If it gets worse, or he starts "complaining" about it, look up your local emergency vet.

It's probably not a big deal, but it's better to be safe than sorry. :)

Well, the best you can do is get a warm wash cloth and use it as a compress she may have an allergy or have gotten something in there. so hold the cloth on there when it gets cold warm it up again,, then if it isnt better tomorrow take her to the vet, but honestly he is probably ok, he could have even been scratching and scratched his eye so seriously use a WARM wash cloth.

It's not an emergency, so don't worry about it today. If it's still doing the same thing tomorrow, then take him to a vet. He may have a minor infection starting. Best of luck to you.

It could be an allergy, but it could also be a corneal scratch. You need to have him seen by your vet first thing tomorrow. My vet always says eye things shouldn't wait - they go bad in a hurry. The good news is that properly treated, they also heal quickly. So get your little guy seen tomorrow!

It doesn't sound like an emergency, you should be fine until tomorrow to see your vet. If you are that concerned, your vet may have an answering service and call you back. Otherwise there are pet hospitals that are open 24/7.

sounds like an allergic reaction or a slight infection. either way, rinse his eye out with room temp. water and keep him away from anything that may irritate it more until you get him in to the vet.
