I live 600 miles away but my brother and his wife who live in the same city as my parents are hosting a Christmas party for 50 some odd people. Our Mother is also quite ill and I have traveled back in forth 3 times since the loss of our Dad to try and help out. Am I wrong to feel that it is poor taste to be having a holiday party so soon after the loss of our Dad especially while my Mother is so ill. I can barely even buy gifts or celebrate with my immediate family due to being so exhausted trying to travel and take care of my Mom who lives 15 minutes from the host, my brother!!

I think that you should talk to your brother and let him know how you feel. I can see your point of view and his also. I mean you may still be grieving a little and he may not be. People do heal and cope from a loss in differnt ways and he's probally not trying to offend you, but things have to go back to normal sometime. You do need a little help with your mother though, and you need to let him know this.

Are you saying that your brother isn't doing enough to take care of your Mom?
You can talk to your brother about this. Tell him that you need him to take over care of your Mom so you can get ready for Christmas. He cannot complain, because he is getting ready for Christmas too.
If he is taking care of his sick Mom, I'd say he is entitled to have a Christmas party too if he wants to. If he's leaving it all up to you, he's a bum.
I know you are grieving for your Dad. Everybody grieves differently; don't get involved in the question of whether your brother is doing it properly.
