What's the question?

I was among the millions who memorized that verse for confirmation when I was in 8th grade. In the Missouri Synod Lutheran church salvation by grace was a basic tenet, and that verse was the support. However, a believer posted another verse here a few weeks ago that contradicts that tenet. It seems that the Bible is not consistent on that point.

Well that is definately a message of Paul!
Paul taught that you are judged by faith (what you believe).
While Jesus and the disciples taught you are judged by works (what you do).
I understand why Christians would prefer the idea of only what you believe matters. After all then they are free to be a evil as they want.

Thank all the pink monkeys THERE IS NO GOD!

How about this one: "Not everyone that saith unto me Lord Lord will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven, but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in Heaven."

How about this one: "He that endureth unto the end, the same shall be saved."

I notice that church people will quote the words of Paul or John or James or Timothy or Joe or just about anybody rather than the words of Jesus Christ. This is because the words of Jesus Christ go way over their heads.
Thanks for your question; it is a good case in point.

As soon as you can answer this question (no peeking!) "And Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden."

Whats the question?

2006-12-17 14:37:16 · answer #8 · answered by ? 3 · 1 0

Easy.

We do not deserve salvation. It is a gift from God. He gave it freely, and He didn't have to give it. If we could earn salvation, then as a person, we could say, "I did it. I am greater than God." Not Jesus saved me.
