Hi and sorry you and Mabel are having such a time. Get yourself a short leash, and put her on it when you take her for a walk. Move away from people who are approaching you and stand off to the side, where Mabel can NOT reach them. When she starts to jump up,pull HARD on her leash,if necessary with BOTH hands, and tell her in a stern voice NO, DOWN, ,BAD DOG,then tell her to SIT.Keep her held tightly until they get a safe distance away(then tell her she is a GOOD DOG,PET HER HEAD,turn her away from them and continue your walk. It will take more than a few times to get the point across to her. I have a Boxer who tried the same thing and I would continue to do the same thing over and over,it took us a couple of weeks of daily working at it,but she finally got the point. Also do NOT let her jump on you or others who are close to you either. She needs to learn that is NOT something that is acceptable, she doesn't understand if you let her do it and then she does it to someone else that it it wrong. Always praise her when she sits and stays put. I am sure after a few times of being out among people, you continue your stern work with her, then praising her when she does it correctly, then she will get the hints. You might try to call a local Vet to ask for help with working with her to see if you are doing it correctly. Good luck and let us know an update of how she is doing in a few weeks. After a short time, she will start to just sit down when people are approaching you and stay put until you give her the command to get up and go along your walks.

You have to watch closely. When she just starts to crouch in preparation to jump, give the leash a snap. Not to hurt her or jerk her around, just enough to make a sharp noise, and so that she feels the collar move a little tiny bit. It takes some practice to get the motion just right, but it will startle her right out of jumping.

The other advantage is that she has no idea where the correction came from, so it's not you being mean, instead it's a natural consequence of the idea of jumping. She'll assume that will happen every time she decides to jump, and the training will work even when you aren't around.

Mable's problem is she just loves people more than is proper.
A sudden sharp yank on the chain with a firm "No" ought to do the trick and continue this routine until Mable gets the idea.
It might not hurt to teach her how to heel too. Just give her enough leash so that she is walking next to you and say firmly "heel." It may not happen in five minutes, but repetition is the key and you should have her and less jumping on people problems.

It's hard for me to related to your problem-- I have a 7-lb mini dachsie.. :-) but i will try..

My dog does the same thing.. but it's easier to see this little weiner dog running up to you & barely reaching your knees when she jumps up-- than to see a 50lb dog charging towards you... However, after three years, maybe my advice is worth a shot.

When Juliet does this, I smack her-- she usually won't cry, but she'll still cringe & curl up because she doesn't like to get hit. Also, she goes for walk on a harness. It gives me more control over her body, rather than just having a collar around her neck attached to the leash.

Dogs don't tend to like very loud noises.. for example, you can get an empty milk gallon & pour some pennies in it.. shake it really hard when she looks like she's going to run at someone.

If the dog is too much for you to control then you should consider not walking her alone, or walking her at a time or place where there aren't that many people.. I know smacking my dog & yelling at her when she bugs people has worked.

good luck!

You do have a problem, don't you? What you need to do is get friends and family help you stop this.

Let everyone involved know what to expect and what to do when they come over or meet you on a walk.

When your dog jumps up on someone have them bring up a knee to knock her away. If she is rather rowdy you may have to use a little more umph when bringing up the knee. Use enough force so that she is somewhat knocked windless. The stronger she is, the stronger you need to be.

What she is doing is trying to greet people as she would a litter mate or parent. Nose to nose, nibbling, licky face, submissive greeting. She is just trying to say 'Hi'. But, you do need to modify this behavior.

If just wont stop, teach her to stand up but turn her back to who ever she is greeting and she can get petted on the chest and not have puppy feets every were.

Of course you correct her and make her sit by you. If you have dog lover friends, have them knell down and get eye level with your dog and they can say 'Hi'.

If he has no longer been conditioned to regularly obey an off command, you cannot wait til he is already straining to get at his distraction and anticipate him to gain knowledge of it and obey it. Don't decrease again, dont' retreat, do not speak to the puppy, do not provide instructions while it begins to occur. Don't stand there asking him to get off on the grounds that he hasn't but related the phrases with what you desire him to do. Just get him backpedal at the flooring and again him up. Trust me, whilst you difference the dynamic and begin claiming truly property instead than giving it up their demeanor alterations speedily. Maybe AFTER you bodily right him, get him off, again him up, support it with DOWN so he pals what you simply mentioned with what you simply stopped him from doing. He should not be wherever close the door while visitors input the condo both, he will have to already be in a submissive role all of the means around the room while the door opens. You stand by way of the visitor and inform the puppy come while it is time to come greet them and acquire affection. Don't permit him crowd the door and placed himself into role to pester all people. The challenge does not begin while the visitor walks in, it begins while the door earrings and the puppy sprints for it. He thinks he is intended to be first in line to greet new humans. Show him he is not. To greater situation them to exhibit manners, they will have to not ever recieve meals or treats with out AT LEAST sitting nonetheless first. Correct him even if he jumps on you. If it is not allowed, it is not allowed. EVER. Not while visitors come, no longer whilst you come house from an extended day's paintings and also you and the puppy have ignored eachother. Not while it is the first time seeing the puppy after a three week separation. You ought to be regular with impulsive or instinctive conduct that's not appropriate. You do not desire any confusion approximately there being a few instances while it is OK and a few while it is not. You do not desire to paintings in this with humans who're uncomfortable or intimidated by way of over-lively puppies. They throw off all of the mistaken frame language, and the whole thing they do most commonly tells the puppy it is OK to hold correct on coming. Get humans worried who know the way to manage an excited puppy to aid with this.

hi

i had the same problem with my dog

the best thing to do is train them as young as they are the better so get in there quick

what we did was consult a dog trainer who told us to get a family friend, someone the dog doesn't recognize and walk past them and just before the dog went to jump, make an unpleasant noise to them a deep voiced word or growl would do the trick and yank their chain roughly to make unpleasant noise near their ears.

Although it doesn't sound nice it works and it does not harm your pet, buy a choke collar and so when they pull or jump in this case it makes a horrible noise for them and they soon stop this.

if this fails go to a dog training group this is what i did and my dog is as good as gold now

hope i was some help=]

I hear you are supposed to knee them hard in the chest/groin area when they jump on you. Seems cruel, but it's supposed to work. I can't talk though...my 70 lb lab still jumps on people and we can't get him to stop either.

There are three ways.
1. Pull her as hard as you can
2. Bring a spray bottle with to spray her until she learns
3. When she jumps on you, bop her with your knee and keep her away until she learns not to jump
