Why do we need (myself at times) to cling to the "magic" of Jesus? Why can't we simply believe Jesus' message. Its a wonderful message. Example: Harmony, forgiveness, God's love, and our harmony loving spirit will lead to our after-life in Heaven with God.

Please cite the scriptures that require us to believe that Jesus' death paid for our sins.

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, so that whosoever believe in him shall perish but have everlasting life."

What is the meaning of "begotten"?

What is the meaning of believe in him?

(I am thinking that we should believe Jesus' messages. And, how he told us to act, if we want to get Heaven; seek harmony, forgive others, love God with all our hearts and mind and spirit (If we love someone, we pay attention to their messages.)

Please cite the verses that said only the blood shed by Jesus on the Cross can get us to Heaven.

Whoops. "shall not perish" . Sorry for that. Do you forgive me?

Please don' t misunderstand me. I love Jesus. I appreciate him coming to this dangerous planet to bring us a message of salvation. I just think that his life and message is our path to Heaven. I think he volunteered his life to put an exclamation point on his messages. (To make people say, "Wow, that guy was willing to die for his moral convictions about the importance of us forgiving each other and seeking harmony.) PS: Like he told us he would, he sent the Holy Spirit to witness that his messages were true and important.

John 8:58 - Of course, if Jesus was God's begotten (physical son), of course he would or could have been born before Abraham. - This verse doesn't seem so strange. The Universe is 13.7 Billion years old. We are a mere 4.5 Billion years old. Planet H (Heaven) could easily have had a 9 billion year head start on us; Scientifically, Technologically, and of course evolutionarily. (Given enough time, Evolution will lead not only to the survival of the fittest, it will lead to eternal life.)

Dear "sweetness",
Good point. Leviticus 17:11 ? Lets examine that verse in context with its chapter and book.

Dear "flatered",

Would you also consider that he came to Earth and lived for your sins? He spent his career teaching us how to wash our sins away by forgiving each other and seeking harmony?

About your reference to "magic" I do not know what concepts you are espousing or to what definition or practice or practices you are refering to. But they all deal with this "adding to" the work of christ, feeling that there is something on my side or "ultra" spirituality to make myself look good, like polishing my halo, or putting in a few indulgences in the coffer. Christ's work was perfect for every capacity to render us powerful and to make us competent as ministers of Jesus Christ. It is all of Him, all from Him, all by and for Him, all that we do is for His glory and His praise and worship.

The term "Only Begotten" is sometimes translated as "One and Only" which is not a good rendering. It means "One who has first place and preeimenence, as if the Only Son, to gloat over, to lavish, to love, to show all one has to give to only." It is therefore a title, more than a description, a position, more than a title, a definition as to state that Here is my Only Beloved Son in whom I am well pleased, and God has given all judgment to the Son so that all may honor the Son as they honor the Father that sent Him. Yet the part I love about the term "Only Begotten" Is that it shows God's single delight, his highest love, his perfect joy, his greatest peace, his immeasuarable patience, his incomprehensible kindness, his overflowing goodness, his manifold faithfulfullness and his supreme self-control, in that he makes us heirs and co-heirs with Christ.

Of "believe in him", means to put every measure of your trust, every aspect of your hope, every portion of your life in his watch care and in His Sovereignty over your life. To live like it meant to be his son, to walk accordingly in the way he wants you to live, to show that you believe is to say yes in all things to all his will for all of your life.

Now about the scriptures you requested:

1 John 2:29-4:21

Heb 9:24-30

24For Christ did not enter a man-made sanctuary that was only a copy of the true one; he entered heaven itself, now to appear for us in God's presence. 25Nor did he enter heaven to offer himself again and again, the way the high priest enters the Most Holy Place every year with blood that is not his own. 26Then Christ would have had to suffer many times since the creation of the world. But now he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself. 27Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, 28so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.

The so called "message of love" of Jesus certainly has a lot of ideas that we can universally agree are "good" ideas, moral, just etc etc.

Unfortunately, that is an edited version of the statements attributed to Jesus, and not all of his putative remarks are so benign. For example:
In Matthew 10:34-37 Jesus says that he comes not to bring peace but a sword, and that he will turn parents against children etc.
Mathew 5:17 Jesus approves of the law and the prophets and the cruelties of the OT
Matthew 11:20 Jesus condems cities to death and hellfire for not agreeing with him
Jesus says he speaks in parables to confuse people (in Matthew)..of course he says the exact opposite in Mark...so who knows.
In Matthew and Mark he supports the OT commandent to kill disobedient children

these are just a few examples of his less popularized "words" (Assuming he actually existed and actually said these things...which is unlikely)

Why?

Because this Jesus guy must have been completely out of his mind. He claimed to be God (John 8:58)
He then prayed to God (Luke 23:34)
The kicker of all is (Matthew 27:46)

So Jesus paryed to himself and had forsaken himself too! Damn he was completely CRAZY!

You're making Jesus make sense. You're making Jesus point out that what we are (how we treat each other and ourselves) is so much, much more important than what we believe (blind faith). You're making the idea of honoring Jesus's life more important than obsessing joyously over his death.

Christians won't like that.

I'm Christian, but I know that I don't need to go to church to speak to God. I do it in my own ways.
