When I was in New Mexico they had the BEST fry bread on the reservations. Native Americans would stand outside and cook to sell for about a dollar. I haven't ever tried to make it but here are several recipes.

indian fry bread
3 cups flour
1 tbsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup warm water
(raisins optional)
Combine dry ingredients in a bowl. Add warm water in small amounts and knead dough until soft but not sticky. Adjust flour or water as needed. Cover bowl and let stand about 15 minutes.
Pull off pieces of dough (size of eggs) and roll out into thin rounds. fry rounds in hot oil until bubbles appear on the dough, turn over and fry on the other side until golden. serve hot with honey brushed on top.

HI! 4 cups flour 1 tablespoon baking powder 1 teaspoon salt 1 tablespoon sugar 1/2 cup warm water 1/2 cup milk,,,,,,,,,let it sit in mixing bowl for 15 minutes or so to rise a bit, get your oil ready in the pan make sure its hot enough, then put extra flour on cutting board and make medium patties on board and make a small hole in the middle of it, and add to oil, fry until light golden brown on both sides..... FLOUR, BAKING SODA, SALT, SUGAR, POWDER MILK
MIX WITH WARM WATER UNTIL DOUGH FORMS, LET REST FOR AN HOUR, PULL OFF PEICES AND FLATTEN, MAKING MIDDLE THINNER THAN OUT SIDE, FRY IN 2-3 INCHES OF OIL , FLIP AND COOK OTHER SIDE.
IF YOU MAKE THEM LARGE ENOUGH YOU CAN MAKE INDIAN TACOS, BY ADDING REFRIED BEANS, MEAT, CHEESE, LETTUCE, TOMATOS.
3-CUPS/FLOUR
1TBLS-B/S
1TSP OF SALT
1/2 CUP SUGAR
1/2 CUP POWDER MILK.(optional)
