A toy collie is a fab choice but does need a lot of exercise and when young they will chew anything. Poodles are great because they don't shed hair so don't make a lot of mess. They also have the advantage that you can "arrange" the hair as macho or girly as you like.

Yorkshire terriers are the dog that is quite often aggressive to larger dogs but by what amount various with the specific dog.

Jack Russells are often considered a "mans" dog as they were originally bred to hunt rabbits. Beware with this breed tho as they are often nippy.

Westies are usually a great cross gender dog and everyone that I have known has had a good sense of humour! They get dirty quickly tho so you'll have to train early to bath!

All the best
