Im a shift worker and I find that regular drinking of plain old water keeps me awake and alert.
Try to avoid heavy carbohydrate foods like Rice or Pasta, as they have a tendency to push up the blood sugar level and make you feel sleepy.
I really enjoy eating carrots & cucumber, sliced up with a pot of homous as a dip followed by dried fruit and a yoghurt. I know it sounds like a diet but thats my meal for a nightshift to stop me nodding off at 0400.
you could try vitamin supplements. The Mrs finds them most helpful.

Energy pills or Gatorade...both of which contain caffeine, but I don't think anything else really can keep you awake besides a good night's sleep or a 15 nap in the middle of the day.
