I think it depends on where you get your motivation. If you are motivated by a desire to avoid punishment then yeah maybe you should say "What wouldn't Jesus do?" But if you are motivated to submit your life to God because of what He has done for you in sending His only begotten Son to die on the cross then really I think it is better to ask "What would Jesus do" because I am looking at my relationship as one of thankfulness and a desire to serve Him.

1 John 4:18-19

18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

19 We love because he first loved us.
NIV

So if you are mature in Christ I think it best to ask "What would Jesus DO."

Great question! Let me tell you what I think.
Well, we just had a pastor at our church come and talk about this. His thesis is that it would be better to ask What Jesus Wouldn't Do instead of what he would do and I agree. Sometimes what may seem right at the time might not nesiserily be what Jesus whould do.

Hmmm. Good point. It would seem that Jesus wouldn't put himself in positions where he'd have to ask "what do I do?"

I think you are asking about questions that have no or little contrast. Jesus could do nothing or couldn't do anything.
