As a tri-lingual adult I can honestly say that I have found the easiest way to learn new languages is through song. Singing is an enjoyable way to pass time and mimic what you are hearing. Children learn better through play because that is their natural tendency, to play at everything they do. So sing, dance, cook, count and label things in the language you are trying to teach.

I'm not totally sure what she means either. The only thing I have to offer is that yes, play can increeas language development, especially imaginative play. Also, maybe she means its ok for children play around with language, and this too is simply a part of the developmental process, kids will experiment with language to become more familiar with what is right and worng, and what language gets what response, etc. Other than that, I think you should ask her to clarify, you will not sound stupid, it would make you look worse in the end to pretend you understand when you don't and have her find that out. Hope this helps, good luck!

While I'm not sure what your supervisor is trying to tell you, I can tell you through personal experience that children seem to pick up language best through conversation. Before my kids could talk, I would talk to them as if they were little adults when we were playing, in the car, at the grocery store, etc. I continued that once they started talking. I would often repeat what they said in the correct form or adding more ideas (ex - Yes, the tomato is red and I bet it is tasty, too.) Both my kids have excellent verbal skills. People are often surprised by their ages; they assume they are older because of the way they speak.

nope

ALL LEARNING IS DEADLY SERIOUS BUSINESS

If anybody actually seems to like learning anything, its dangerous, first they might ask the teacher something he or she doesn't know the answer to, then authority in the classroom is gone too. Along with that serious boring atmosphere that everybody knows is just NOT conducive to learning anything. If College classes were fun EVERYBODY would want to take them. And might learn things, then what, nobody to do the jobs that have to get done.

children learn things faster through play. so say for example your child is playing with play food...while they are playing with it you could name out the things the child plays with...therefore helping the child to associate words to the objects.
