Read the New Testament, where Jesus said that a certain guy was praying, and saying "I thank thee Lord that I am not as one of those, that I am better..." Then Jesus said the proper way to pray is to say "Lord have mercy on me a sinner."
In the example you cite there was no murder taking place. It was a hypothetical discussion.

I agree that he shouldn't kill his children. If he is as claimed to be, he would let his children live their lives until they had their own deaths. I believe in God, too, but I have questions like this all the time & it's hard to find a clear answer especially when you're having a conversation with most Christians. They don't usually have an open mind. If there's a clear cut explanation for this, I'd like to hear it.
