Is Grey's Anatomy an accurate portrayal of the daily lives of doctors? Do other medical shows, like House, ER, 3lbs, come closer to showing what doctors really experinece?

I havent watched Greys in a while but the anser to your question is a little tricky.
First too many people forget that doctors are real people too.
I did a clinical rotation in a hospital once and partly yes they do have the drama of who is screwing who and gossip affairs, drug use ect.
The thing about these shows is they focus on these soap opera details. So I would say yes they do happen but no not in the severity of what is seen on these shows.
The thing that get me about some of them (and I actually love House) is the roles that they play. I find it funny when the interns are running lab tests, doing MRI's and just about everything.
Real doctors would have the lab techs do the lab work and MRI tech doing MRI's. An MRI machine is a complicated thing to use and thats why there is special training for it and then a specialized doctor called a Radiologist reads the results. Real doctors dont just focus on one case a day, doing all the work for the entire case. Anyway I just find it odd and too me is a deeper false representation of what doctors do on a day to day basis.

if any doctor did to a patient what izzy did to denny last season, cutting his vad line, they woud have been reported to the state board and most likely had their license revoked, they would not have been put on probabtion and allowed to return the way she has been...i don't think any medical show is accurate, the way they have nurses dress,do procedures and such, and how come bed rails are never raised..ER is too bloody,i dont care how bad a person is hurt there are no operating rooms just open and waiting for people, and sometimes 4 cases at once to arrive from the er....i will say er has gotten a bit better with some aspects...never seen 3lbs and house ive seen a few times and again a vicodin addicted doc is no problem so it seems, definetely not so....as far as i know cell phones can cause interference with certain medical equiptment, mainly heart monitors,so we do not allow anyone to talk on a cell phone and require they be turned off on our unit because we know if one is on...also with greys anatomy it bothers me the way they show them always at a bar at the end of a shift...from working as a nurse for over 20 yrs now and watching many docs and watching the students grow into residents and beyond lots of times they do not have time to eat dinner without being paged so hanging out at a bar every evening seems unreal, and the constant sex...who knows maybe residents do live with their interns and have sex in his hospital room but seems unlikely to me...that plastic surgeon on greys who has the interns get his dry cleaning, not gonna happen

No, doctors do not ever live like they do on Grey's Anatomy because they will be fired.
I haven't watched the "House" or "3lbs".
The drama part of "ER" is full of cr@p, but some of the medical precedures in assisting patients are real.

Well real doctors do not use their cell phone in the hospital.
The show Grey's Anatomy is a real silly joke of a show.
Ben Casey and Dr, Killdare were much better shows.

Dr.'s lives are no different than anyone else's. The only difference is their career choice is much more demanding of their time and energy than most people's. Dr.'s date, drink, party, raise families and all the normal stuff that the rest of us do. TV shows don't always do them justice because tv shows are nothing but actors acting out roles. Most Dr's have the best sense of humor, and are the sincerest people, and the great thing about dr's is you can tell them anything and by law they can't tell anyone else. The one thing I would dread about when it comes to being a dr. would be paying for all of the insurance they have to buy.

No, doctors dont get out or have a life..
they only know the hospital and their books... All their time and energy is spent to work, learning and patients.. If they are lucky they find time for someone once and a while..
