Oil, crisco or butter are all good. Grease with your fingers or a paper towel. You can also use Pam cooking spray.
If the cookies require butter in the recipe, the easiest way is to use the paper wrapper from the stick of butter to grease the sheet.

best is a cooking spray, just a light coating - although most cookie recipes say an ungreased baking sheet

apply a thin film of non-stick cooking spray such as Pam, or a silicone spray lubricant. Either one will work. Wipe out the excess with a paper towel and leave only a very thin film.

usually, a spray non-stick is good, lard, margarine, it all depends on what you're making. if it's cakes, and you're not using the non-stick spray, add a little flour, or non seasoned bread crumbs, after you greased your sheet.
good luck!

spray it with Pam.
BTW, when I was in high school, there was a girl named Collete. All the boys called her Col-it. But the grils called her Co-lut. Hope that's not you, Collete.
