My neighbor just brought me over a Christmas gift, nothing big just a nice gift with a card. I wasn't planning on getting her a gift, we are just casual aquaintences.
What should I do now? I feel funny getting her a gift now, after she got one for me. Will it look obivious that I just got her a gift because she got me one? I was thinking about making her some cookies or a cake, something I baked. Do think that would be ok, or should I do something else?

Cookies would be perfect. It has a nice personal touch, as well.

You should never feel obligated to give someone something just because they gave you something. A gift now would look like you just gave something because she did. I have found that baked goods are fine to give whenever...so if you are feeling really guilty, go with that.

I was just listening to this very topic on a talk show, and they said that you don't need to feel obligated to return the gift.
But something home baked for her is quite a nice gesture, esp. if you would like to pursue the frienship.
Have a merry Christmas!

I think baking her something is just perfect. It shows you appreciate the gesture and it won't look obvious.
I bought gifts for my neighbor who I actually spent plenty of time with and cared about, which they have since moved after 8 years of being neighbors! :(

I think baking something that will be perfect but if you give her a toy or any types of money it will totally be obvious that you're just giving her a present because she gave you a present.

I hate when someone does that. If you get her nothing then you might not have aproblem next year.
