Tons of stuff

When we dream, our brains are processing information that we didn't have time to deal with during our waking hours. Sometimes it will replay old memories, sometimes it will project current problems onto fantasy sites, sometimes it will show our fondest hopes and dreams - things we wish could happen in real life, but which likely never will (such as being able to fly). And sometimes the things we dream seem to have no relation to our lives, either past or present. Dream analysts sometimes make linkages and say that dreaming of a certain object has a precise meaning - but the problem is, they don't agree with each other, so it is hard to take such prognostications seriously. A few people claim to get messages through their dreams -- winning lottery numbers, etc. -- and surprisingly enough, they are sometimes correct. More often they aren't, but people tend to forget about those dreams.

When we dream it is our unconscious thought taking place. And trying to process information that the brain doesn't need to use when conscious and that's the time imagination takes place at its best.
