When you read the Bible, do ya'll just conviently skip over thees parts?

Leviticus 20:13-If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

1 Corintians 6:9-Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,

Matthew 15:19-For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander.

1 Corinthians 6:18-Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body.

Galations 5:19-The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery;

Jude 1:7-In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion.

Well... the passages in Leviticus, understood IN THE CONTEXT of the time and place, are not an admonishment against loving sexual relationships between people of the same sex but instead against sex as a form of domination and control. Besides, these passages are part of the Holiness Code which is not binding to modern day Christians (or anyone else for that matter).

1 Corinthians 6:9 was a mistranslation of the word "malakee". It's used elsewhere in the Bible to mean someone who lacks discipline or one who is morally weak, and NEVER is it used in reference to sexuality or gender.

The story of Sodom and Gomorrah was a warning against rape, inhospitality and xenophobia. The reason for Sodom's destruction is made clear in Ezekiel 16:48-50. According to Ezekiel, the sins of Sodom were pride, laziness, being inhospitable, neglecting the needs of the poor, greed, and idolatry (the worshiping of idols). Nothing about homosexuality is mentioned. If Jude 1:17 describes anything about sexual immorality and perversion, it's speaking of RAPE.

As for Cor 6:18, Matthew and Galations, it's YOUR opinion that homosexuality is sexually immoral. Again, sexual immorality could very well simply mean "rape" or "intercourse during a woman's period".

Your profile doesn't allow anyone to contact you, so I'll just write here a response to a question you asked above.

In reply to that, no you can't just choose some of God's laws an overlook others. In fact, the Bible tells us that if we break the law on just one point, we're guilty of breaking the whole law, because it was the same God who wrote it all. Now, we're all guilty of sinning. Have you ever told a lie? Stolen something, even if it was an mp3 or a paperclip? Have you ever hated someone (the Bible tells us hatred is the same as murder)? I know I have. You can see why a person can't get to heaven on their own, because we are all lawbreakers. That is where Jesus comes in. Christianity tells us that He came to save us from our sins and give us all eternal life. However, when somebody begins to follow Jesus, they start walking a different road, and have a new heart inside them, so to speak. So a true Christian leaves behind the way he once lived to follow Jesus. People who, as you say, "continue to live in that sinful state" have not truly begun to follow Jesus. I pray that they will.

One more thing... "Aren't you responsible for your own deeds?" Yes, we have been given freedom to choose, but are we responsible for getting into Heaven? Well, look at it this way. If God judged us by our works alone, no one would get to heaven. We've all lied, stolen, lusted, etc. That's why God sent us Jesus. Also, if we were certain we would go to Heaven on our own accord, we would become proud and receive praise for our own 'good works.' But this way, only God is responsible for, and receives praise for our salvation.

can not help but notice you left out the referances to gossips in that Galations ref. Wonder why that is?? Check out Eph 5 and 1 COR 6:9 Romans 1 :29, Rev. 21:8 .

If you are trying to be critical be sure you preach to everyone including the gossips who lose their inheritance in heaven and whose presence is known in many churches, you might say the practice runs rampant. It does way more damage than a few Gays, who it seems you fear and yet are not the gossips the ones to be feared.

Sexual immorality and perversion can be interpreted many ways. It is a sin, regardless, outside of marriage. God will be busy judging a bunch of us on that one. Even if you do not believe in God, nature's way is still male and female create an offspring, for almost all creatures, but definitely for humans.

As a non- believer, I, of course, do not believe in the bible as the word of a god. I never skip over any passages in the bible. They are fascinating reflections of the way cults and tribes of ancient times felt about social and sexual issues. Have a great day!

first of all, sexual immorality is done by straight men and women too, its called cheating.

And one can interpret Sodom and Gomorrah as rape or going against the host/guest customs, which were more important at the time. Homosexuality has nothing to do w/ Sodom and Gomorrah, if one interrupts it differently.

here's a bit from leviticus, i assume you conveniently skip it out:

And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you: (11:10-12) Clams, oysters, crabs, lobsters, and shrimp are abominations.
What the Bible says about food and drink
11:11 They shall be even an abomination unto you; ye shall not eat of their flesh, but ye shall have their carcases in abomination.
11:12 Whatsoever hath no fins nor scales in the waters, that shall be an abomination unto you.

And another bit:
(Lev 19:19)
Ye shall keep my statutes. Thou shalt not let thy cattle gender with a diverse kind: thou shalt not sow thy field with mingled seed: neither shall a garment mingled of linen and woollen come upon thee.

For the non believer, it is entirely possible to accept the teachings of Jesus. Principals like, "turn the other cheek" et al, are positive ways to conduct yourself in this world. This has zero to do with Old Testament rules and punitive values. Consequently, one can be loving and live an affirming life like Gandhi and not be Christian. One is not exclusive of the other.

In all aspects of my life, I skip over parts. I love my wife and family, but I know they're flawed. I love my country, but I know the McCarthy era, the Japanese Internment, and Invasion of Iraq are bad things I wouldn't want any other country to re-enact.

There are parts of the Bible I don't really buy, but I don't "conviently skip over thees parts." I question and I self-evaluate, and I pray for wisdom.

those quotes mean nothing to me. Should they? Why do you use bible as a weapon of your own means? Why do you twist it around then expect others to respect what you have twisted? You should take this crap elsewhere, it's not a valid question. You are just bating people into an argument. be a real Christian and show some respect.
