for the Swift Meat packing company?.. The company announced prices may be going up due to shortages of processed meat...Are we going to see hamburger at 5 dollars a pound or more? A T-bone selling for 20 dollars at the store??? I believe these prices, maybe even higher are already the norm in Japan...

let me clarify one thing, I eat very little red meat, I had colon cancer surgery two years ago, and i eat more veggies and fiber now, and yes, i am in hopes that the Swift company will hire Americans to fill the lost positions, I wasn't "whining", just conducting an unofficial survey. thank all of you for your great answers,,,,

Whatever I pay, it would still be cheaper in the long run if we had NO illegal immigration.

The meat packing industry was 100% American, making $20+ an hour with good benefits, 25 years ago. We could all afford beef then. Send the $8 an hour illegals home, rehire the Americans for $20+ an hour, and we'll figure out how to keep right on eating beef.
Just how much more do you think beef in Canada costs where Canadians work in the meat packing industry?

I HAVE already bought meat at that price, they are just using the excuse to line their pockets more. If enough people didn't buy red meat, the price would drop and the meat packers would be none the poorer. Incidentally, do you realize that in 1980 the average wage for a meatpacker was 19 an hour, and that now almost thirty years later it is 9? We have experienced a reduction in wages, and yet, meat prices are actually more. Care to explain?
Furthermore, the American people consume far too much red meat, and could use a little incentive to have more veggie in their diet.

ask the people that used to process meat at 19 dollars an hour and now do so for around 9-10 and hour, they are already paying for the illegals in that they are getting lower wages and less benefits as far as the meat processed meat especially I have yet to see the difference in the grocery store and I would say that it will only rise if the demand is high and since we in the USA are learning to be healthy processed meat being bad for you anyhow will not be to missed

Pay Americans a fair wage to do those jobs and there won't be a problem. The ones who will lose are the greedy, fat cat's at the top who want cheap labor so they can reap a bigger paycheck. American's would rather pay a few cents more a lb. for beef and have AMERICANS doing those jobs than have cheap labor by illegals who abuse our tax programs, THAT WE pay for anyway. Give AMERICANS those jobs at a decent wage, there will be less people on welfare, and those people will be paying taxes on those wages and what they purchase with those wages will go into the economy of the USA, not Mexico!! WE win in more ways than one.
Deport illegal invaders

As I have a full view of Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty as I write this I am reminded daily of what my grandfather and millions of others had to endure to make it to the country LEGALLY. The country was not built on the back of ILLEGALs but of LEGALS immigrants. I support every race, creed, religion that enters this country legally. You would be surprised at how many legal latinos want the same for their bretheren. I wish everyone good luck and a quick and fair resolution for all.

We are now buying at a local butcher shop. We pay a little bit more, but we are amazed at how much better it taste.
Before you go off the charts with meat...remember what has been done to us with the price of oil.....
America is not cheap. Our country continues because so many have paid with their lives. So...... you pay a few cents more for meat...a small price to pay...
Please tell me you aren't actually whining about this!

looks like maybe some American citizens have a chance to work now . I'm glad they deported them. I am so sick of our jobs being given to illegals.

Good question. This is another case of we only want the illegals here when they benefit us. How much do you think our produce would cost without their labor? Or would we be willing to pay $150 a night to stay in a Motel 6 in order to pay union wages to our cleaning people. People should watch the documentary " A Day Without a Mexican" . Very enlightening as to what would happen to our economy and our standard of living. There is an old saying that America was built on the backs of immigrants. Unless you are Native American - we all came to this country uninvited!
