If you really care about the environment, you have to go vegetarian. Meat production causes extensive pollution and is a huge drain on our resources. It even causes more pollution than these SUVs people always complain about. It is also easy to become meat free and much kinder to animals. Meat is no longer needed as a food source as many other kinder options exist. In fact, most meat sold today is in the form of stuff like hamburgers and hot dogs and is bad for your health. The only real reason to eat meat is for entertainment and the animals pay the price for our entertainment as they are abused and slaughtered. It is hypocritical to say you care about the environment and love animals while eating meat.

Best way to control air pollution is at the source.
First step is to select a process which does not create pollution like- if you are handling dusty objects, use moisture to moisten the dust, that way it will not fly. Many companies increase moisture content in coal and ore to avoid dust pollution. If you are having a chemical process, adopt a process which is most efficient and avoids or reduces generations of pollutants. If it cannot be stopped, the area needs to be enclosed, air from enclosure is sucked through a treatment system that may be a filter or washer. The washing can be carried out by water, alkali or acid depending upon pollutant. Another way of controlling the air pollution is recycling the pollutant generated in process, using het of combustion to preheat gases.
There ia a very long list of steps to reduce air pollution.
One of the simplest and most common action is planting more trees as the trees not only provide Oxygen to us but, absorb dust and sound pollution also.

The earth has its own recycle system. The plants take in CO2 and give off oxygen ,pretty good. That is the beginning of fossil fuel recycle. The plant leaves etc. wash down the rivers to Detroit in to oil,gas ,and coal.

Bring out fuel-efficient cars which give out less smoke.
Use catalytic converters to convert harmful gases like Sulphur dioxide to less toxic ones like sulphur and carbon dioxide.
Use Adsorbers, Absorbers and Scrubbers in the chimmneys of factories to capture aerosols and other paticles.
And more importantly burn less fossil fuels and switch over to non conventional and less polluting sources of energy like solar, geothermal, wind, tidal, ocean-thermal energy etc
