I am a non US citizen; however, I am a resident alien. How do I obtain a passport so I can travel abroad?

Every passport site I've found online seems to require citizenship as a prerequisite to obtaining a passport.

+ Your country of citizenship determines where you can get a passport. I am surprised that you thought you could get a US passport without being a citizen. You need to contact your countries embassy. You might be able to get your passport via the mail, or with only one visit if you have all of the requirements completed in advance. Be aware that some countries have conscription laws and if you grew up here as a non-resident alien you might have forgotten to register for your countries draft and find yourself in the armed services or perhaps there may be tax issues that you need to resolve after an extended time.

Contact the consulate of your country of birth. They will be able to issue a new passport. If you go to Canada you don't need a passport.

Only citizens of the US can apply for US passport. Only Mexican citizens can apply for Mexican passport. ONLY Canadian citizens can apply for Canadian passport. And so on.

You should apply for a passport from your native country.
