I believe that soldiers should get paid more than the athletes, such as the basketball players. Basketball players aren't worth of getting paid that much, they don't risk their lives for any one when they're in the basketball court. Soldiers defend and protect our country! They fight for other peoples lives, and often times they even give their own lives. Soldiers bleed and sweat to protect us, while celebrities work for money and fame. Athletes get paid a whole lot more than they deserve! People that deserve to get paid that much are the people that work to provide others service, not entertainment. I guess that we Americans are sometimes so dumb and BLIND that we can't decide whats more important, that we often time value waching sports game or a movie than to watch the news and see whats going on in Iraq, or how our soldiers are doing there. That's why fans are willing to pay high ticket prices to watch TV sports, in large numbers. The fans demand for pro athletes raises the price of athletes services, and there aren't that many superstar athletes. Police officers, firefighters, and doctors save lives and they only make a fraction of what sport stars make a year. Basketball stars even get paid more than the President, they are seriously being overpaid. Superstar athletes believe they are worth it b/c they make so much money for the team owners.

Why is water, a commodity that no human can stay with out, just about valueless whilst diamonds, which serve genuinely no useful purpose, are nicely worth hundreds of greenbacks? furnish and insist. NBA gamers are large athletes. They do issues a strategies previous something a classic guy or woman can do. Superstars are few and lots between, while in simple terms approximately anybody, after some training, would be qualified to grow to be a firefighter. i'm no longer attempting to downplay the artwork firefighters do - they are an critical area of our united states of america and that they are relatively unselfish. yet an marvelous basketball participant who can pump lots funds right into a franchise (look what Lebron did for the Cavs, what Michael Jordan did for the Bulls) would be paid extra. it relatively is capitalism, toddler.

You right. This doesn't sound write. But there are tons more men in the army and that money comes out of our pay checks. People like to watch athletes play and will pay big bucks for it. Finding a sponsor will be difficult but you can try if you truly believe what your doing should happen no matter what.

If army guys were paid that much then we would have people are not brave and who aren't doing it for protecting the country. Being in the military is about doing it to be better or for protecting. If we had their salary be high we would need to constantly be at war (tho we already are) to sustain their salaries. It's sad but it economically would not make sense and then the bar to get in would be too high and also increase the need for war

It is a matter of an old economic law called supply and demand.
More people can do soldiering than can play pro sports.
If you feel you get more from soldiering and the pride and honor it brings then there are other compensations beside monetary. On the other hand, as time goes on, you may derive more monetary benefits like retirement and health care than a washed-up pro athlete.

All sports are overpaid. Baseball and Basketball being the highest. However I would agree that the military is underpaid. the government wouldn't pay the miltary that much money b/c its to easy to get in it. As with the sports you has to stand out and its tougher to get in. The military should be paid more though i would say.

most miltary men amd women are lucky if they get that. My father was in the military for 25 years and he only made that the last 5 years of his career. They get paid so little because they are funded by taxpayers money and the government has such a deficit that the military is rarely taken care of. Sad, but true.

According to what pay scale do I get paid 35000 a year? I make $24000 a year while I'm drawing the special pay that comes with deployment.

Supply and Demand, in terms of the Basketball players.
As for members of the Military, it is not a glorified profession. I do agree that they should be paid a lot more.

Because we, as Americans, have a very warped sense of values. Why does a research scientist, finding a cure for cancer, get $100,000 per year and a baseball player get 25.2 million per yearly.
In 1982 the president of Texas A&M got $89,000; head of M.D. Anderson Cancer Research got $181,000; the governor of Texas got $90,000 AND Texas A&M hired Jackie Sherrill as football coach (not AD-just football coach) for $282,000.
OOPS, Bush wasn't president then-I guess that means the president isn't responsible for us being stupid, huh.
